This project involved providing comprehensive fire engineering services for the Sohar Alloy Wheels Project in the Sultanate of Oman. The primary objective was to review the Natural Gas (NG) pipeline drawings and the overall fire and life safety systems to ensure compliance with Royal Oman Police Civil Defense (ROPCD) and Public Authority for Civil Defense and Ambulance (PACDA) standards. Our services were essential for securing preliminary and final approvals for the facility.
Project Stages and Services
Aman International Engineering team provided a phased approach to ensure all project and regulatory requirements were met:
Preliminary Design Review (PDR)
- Initial Meetings: Meetings were attended with PACDA to discuss project details and confirm the applicable codes and standards.
- Fire System Reviews: Preliminary design drawings were reviewed for life safety, fire protection, fire alarm systems, and the LPG system to ensure compliance with NFPA and local GCC codes.
- PACDA Submittal: A complete package of documents and drawings was prepared and submitted to PACDA for preliminary approval.
Detailed Design Review (DDR)
- Comprehensive Review: A detailed review of design drawings was conducted for all fire protection and fire alarm systems, including hydraulic calculations for sprinklers, standpipes, and fire pumps.
Construction Administration Support
- Material Submittal Review: Material submittals were reviewed for all fire and life safety equipment to ensure they met project and code requirements.
- Site Inspections: On-site visits were performed to visually inspect installations and provided reports to the client on compliance and any non-conformities.
- Testing and Commissioning: Functionality testing was witnessed for all fire and life safety systems, including fire pumps, fire alarms, and emergency lighting, to ensure proper operation.
- Final Approval: A final compliance report was prepared and submitted to PACDA to secure the final occupancy license.
Project Outcome
The project successfully achieved both preliminary and final approvals from the relevant authorities. Through detailed design reviews, on-site inspections, and meticulous testing, we ensured the robust implementation of fire and life safety systems, resulting in the seamless handover of the project and enhanced safety for the facility.
