Ras Al Khaimah International Airport – Passenger Terminal and Hangars

Ras Al Khaimah International Airport – PTB & Hangars

Ras Al Khaimah United Arab Emirates

This project involved providing comprehensive fire and life safety consultancy services for the new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB), a VVIP building, and hangars at Ras Al Khaimah International Airport. The new PTB is designed to manage two million annual passengers, with the entire development requiring compliance with the latest UAE Building Code and NFPA Codes and Standards as adopted by the local Civil Defence (CD).

Project Stages and Services

Aman International Engineering team delivered a multi-stage approach to ensure every aspect of the project's fire and life safety was thoroughly reviewed and aligned with regulatory requirements.

Conceptual Design Review (CDR)

  • A review of the conceptual site plan and floor plans was conducted to confirm structural fire safety features and a code-compliant design for fire and emergency services accessibility.

Schematic Preliminary Design Review (PDR)

  • A detailed Fire and Life Safety Strategy Report (FSSR) was prepared, defining a comprehensive strategy that addressed occupant safety, property protection, and equipment access.
  • Preliminary life safety design drawings were developed, and preliminary designs for fire protection, fire alarm, and smoke management systems were reviewed. This included assessing egress paths, sprinkler layouts, and fire alarm device placements.

Detailed Design Review (DDR)

  • A detailed review of all architectural and system-specific drawings was performed to ensure full compliance with fire and life safety codes.
  • Designs for fire protection systems, including sprinkler and standpipe systems, as well as fire pumps and underground fire mains, were reviewed.
  • Detailed layouts for fire alarm and detection systems, in addition to smoke management systems, were also reviewed to ensure their general philosophy and interfaces were correctly designed.

Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) Approval

  • The approved design packages were provided to the Civil Defence as per their procedures. As a CD-licensed fire consultant, the design packages were stamped, and meetings with the Civil Defence were arranged to facilitate the review and approval process.
