Qiddiya Stadium – Fire & Life Safety Consultancy

Qiddiya Stadium

Riyadh Saudi Arabia

This project involved providing fire and life safety consultancy services for the proposed Qiddiya Stadium, a 40,000-seater stadium perched on a cliff in Riyadh. The project also included various ancillary facilities such as a museum, clubhouses, immersive experience venues, and retail spaces. The primary goal was to ensure all designs complied with the latest Saudi Building Code (SBC) and NFPA codes, and to secure approval from the Civil Defense (CD).

Project Stages and Services

Aman International Engineering team provided a phased approach to ensure full compliance and a smooth approval process:

Schematic/Preliminary Design Review (Stage 1)

  • Life Safety: Preliminary design drawings for life safety were reviewed, including means of egress, fire department access, and fire/smoke-rating requirements.
  • Fire Protection & Fire Alarm: Preliminary design drawings were reviewed for fire protection systems (sprinkler layouts, standpipes) and fire alarm systems (device locations, layouts).
  • Smoke Management: Preliminary documentation for smoke management systems was reviewed, including general philosophy and interfaces with the fire alarm system.

Detailed Design Review (Stage 2)

  • Detailed System Review: A comprehensive review of detailed design drawings for life safety, fire protection, and fire alarm systems was conducted, including hydraulic calculations, fire pump room details, and clean agent systems.
  • Fire Main and Hydrants: The detailed design for the underground fire main, fire hydrants, and fire pumps were reviewed, ensuring coordination with the overall site layout.
  • Smoke Management: Detailed design documentation for smoke management systems was reviewed, ensuring all components and system operations were in compliance.

Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) Approval

  • Design Submission: The finalized and approved design packages were provided to the Civil Defense for their information and approval. The firm acted as a licensed fire consultant to arrange meetings and coordinate with the authorities as required.

Project Outcome

The project successfully underwent a rigorous two-stage design review process, covering both preliminary and detailed designs. By providing expert fire and life safety consultancy, we ensured all aspects of the complex, including the stadium and its diverse ancillary facilities, met the stringent requirements of the Saudi Building Code and NFPA standards. The strategic reviews and direct coordination with the Civil Defense were critical to the project's progress towards final approval.
