Muscat International Airport – Fire Engineering Services

Muscat International Airport

Muscat Saltanat of Oman

This project involved providing fire engineering services for a new 82 m2 retail outlet at Muscat International Airport. The primary objective was to ensure all fire and life safety designs complied with the GCC code and NFPA Codes and Standards as adopted by the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA).

Project Stages and Services

Aman International Engineering team provided a multi-stage approach to ensure the project met all regulatory requirements.

Preliminary Design (PD) Services

  • The architectural drawings were reviewed to ensure compliance with life safety requirements and preliminary life safety design drawings were developed. These included specifications for means of egress, fire-rating requirements, and occupant load.
  • Preliminary fire protection system drawings were developed, detailing basic information like sprinkler head spacing and fire cabinet layouts as required by the CDAA.
  • Preliminary fire alarm system drawings were also developed, specifying the locations of initiating devices, notification devices, and manual call points.
  • The complete submittal package for the CDAA was prepared, and meetings with the authorities were arranged and attended to facilitate the preliminary approval process.

Construction Administration Support Services

  • Material submittals and shop drawings for life safety, fire protection, and fire alarm systems were reviewed to verify compliance with applicable codes.
  • On-site visual inspections were performed, and the testing and commissioning of all fire detection and protection systems were witnessed to ensure they were functional and met NFPA and Civil Defence requirements.
  • A final acceptance letter and a compliance report, stamped by Aman, were issued to confirm the installed systems adhered to the approved design drawings.
  • The final submission to the CDAA was managed to obtain the final occupancy permit.

Project Outcome

The project successfully navigated the preliminary design and construction administration phases. Our comprehensive design development and review services, combined with on-site support and coordination with the CDAA, ensured the Gallery Argan Outlet's fire and life safety systems were fully compliant, resulting in a seamless approval and handover process.
