Mina Boulevard

Makkah Saudi Arabia

This project involved providing preliminary design services for a retail development known as Mina Boulevard, which consists of mercantile kiosks in a large master-planned area. The main goal was to assist the client with developing the preliminary fire and life safety designs and securing approval from the local Civil Defence (CD). The project focused on ensuring all plans for the 1,889 sq. m development were compliant with the latest Saudi Building Code (SBC) and NFPA Codes and Standards.

Project Stages and Services

Aman International Engineering team provided a focused approach to the design phase to ensure all fire and life safety requirements were met.

Fire & Life Safety System Design (Preliminary Stage)

  • Life Safety Design: Architectural drawings were reviewed to ensure they met life safety requirements. Preliminary life safety drawings were then developed, which addressed critical elements such as means of egress, fire department access, construction material, occupancy load, and emergency lighting.
  • Fire Protection Design: Preliminary design drawings were developed for fire protection systems, including basic information on sprinkler head spacing, design density curves, and fire cabinet layouts.
  • Fire Alarm Design: Preliminary design drawings were also developed for the fire alarm systems, detailing the placement of initiating and notification devices and manual call points.

Design Submission

All design packages, including the life safety, fire protection, and fire alarm drawings, were prepared and stamped by the firm as a CD-licensed fire consultant to facilitate the preliminary approval process.

Project Outcome

The project successfully completed the preliminary design phase, establishing a clear and compliant foundation for the development of Mina Boulevard. By providing expert design and documentation, we streamlined the approval process with Civil Defence, paving the way for the client to proceed with the next stages of the project. This early-stage consultancy work ensured that a robust fire and life safety strategy was integrated into the project from the very beginning.
