This project involved providing a full range of fire engineering services for the Khalifa Port, a major development by Abu Dhabi Ports. The primary objective was to develop and review preliminary and detailed designs for the fire pump room and external hydrant facilities to ensure full compliance with the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code and NFPA Codes and Standards, as adopted by the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence (ADCD).
Fire & Life Safety Design Services
Aman International Engineering team delivered a comprehensive, multi-stage design approach to meet the project's specific needs:
Preliminary Design (PD) Services
- Architectural drawings were reviewed to ensure compliance with life safety requirements, including means of egress, fire access, and fire-rated barriers.
- A Fire and Life Safety Strategy Report was developed that outlined the fire protection and detection systems based on the applicable codes and standards.
- The preliminary design package was prepared and submitted to the ADCD for initial approval.
Detailed Design (DD) Services
- Detailed design was provided for the fire protection systems, including the layout of the underground fire main, fire pumps, and external hydrants.
- Detailed layouts were prepared for the fire alarm and detection systems, ensuring all components and sequences of operation were compliant with regulatory requirements.
- A crucial part of this stage was a Quality Assurance review to check the completed design for compliance with ADCD requirements before the package was submitted for approval.
Project Outcome
The project successfully completed a comprehensive design process for the Khalifa Port's critical fire and life safety infrastructure. Our work ensured that the designs for the fire pump room and external hydrant facilities were fully compliant with all local and international codes. The successful preliminary and detailed design submissions provided a solid foundation for construction, paving the way for a safe and secure port facility in Abu Dhabi.
