This project involved conducting an evaluation of the existing fire and life safety, fire protection, and detection systems for the Jotun facility in Dammam. The primary objective was to assess the functionality and effectiveness of the existing systems against applicable design standards, and to provide recommendations for improvement. The facility covers a total plot area of 12,500 square meters with a built-up area of 5,000 square meters, including various buildings for office, warehouse, and tank farms. The project aimed to ensure compliance with Saudi Building Code (SBC), NFPA codes, and MODON regulations.
Project Stages and Services
Aman International Engineering team provided a comprehensive, phased approach to the project:
Site Verification and Data Collection
- An on-site visit was conducted to collect data and drawings.
- The existing fire and life safety systems were reviewed to ensure they matched the as-built drawings and met the required standards.
Study Phase
- A detailed gap analysis was performed to identify deficiencies in the existing fire systems.
- Engineering calculations were conducted, including hydraulic and clean agent calculations, to verify system performance.
- All findings were reviewed and cross-referenced with the applicable codes and standards.
Technical Report Phase
- A comprehensive Fire Safety Philosophy (FSP) document was developed.
- A technical report was prepared outlining the proposed recommendations to address the identified gaps and deviations from the standards.
Construction Administration Support
- Support was provided for the construction phase by reviewing material submittals and shop drawings.
- On-site visits were conducted to visually inspect the rectification works.
- The testing and commissioning of the fire systems were witnessed to ensure they were functioning correctly.
Project Outcome
The project successfully achieved its objective by providing Jotun with a clear, cost-effective, and practical set of recommendations to bring their facility's fire and life safety systems into compliance. The detailed evaluation and comprehensive reports provided the necessary information for the client to proceed with the recommended modifications and secure a fire certification document from the local authorities.
