Institute of Public Administration

Muscat Saltanat of Oman

This project involved providing comprehensive fire engineering services for a new multi-story building at the Institute of Public Administration. The objective was to ensure the detailed design and construction administration complied with the GCC code and NFPA Codes and Standards as adopted by the Public Authority of Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA). The project included services for all floors, from the basement to the penthouse and roof levels.

Project Stages and Services

Aman International Engineering team provided a detailed, multi-stage approach to ensure the project's success.

Detailed Design Services

  • A comprehensive detailed design for the fire protection systems, including sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire mains, and fire pumps, was developed. Preliminary hydraulic calculations were also conducted.
  • The detailed design for the fire alarm and detection system, including control panels, notification appliances, and smoke detector locations, was reviewed.
  • A quality assurance review was performed on the completed designs to check for compliance with PACDA and other applicable codes before providing the final design package to the installation contractor.

Construction Administration Support Services

  • Material submittals and shop drawings for all life safety, fire protection, and fire alarm systems were reviewed.
  • On-site visual inspections were conducted to verify that the installations were compliant with the approved designs and applicable codes.
  • Witnessing of the testing and commissioning of all fire systems, from fire detection and alarms to fire pumps and emergency lighting, was conducted to verify their functionality as per NFPA and PACDA requirements.
  • A final compliance report was prepared and issued, which was then submitted to PACDA to secure the final occupancy permit.

Project Outcome

The project successfully delivered a safe and compliant building for the Institute of Public Administration. Involvement in both the detailed design phase and the construction administration support ensured that all fire and life safety systems were meticulously planned, installed, and tested. The final compliance report and approval from PACDA confirmed that the building was equipped with robust and reliable fire safety measures, providing a secure environment for all occupants.
