Barka II Plant

Barka Oman

This project involved providing fire engineering services for the firefighting system at the Barka II Plant, a facility for SMN Power Holding SAOG in Oman. The primary objective was to conduct an audit of the existing fire protection systems and a risk assessment to ensure compliance with the latest GCC code and NFPA Codes and Standards, as adopted by the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA). The project focused on identifying and mitigating risks related to continuous leakages in the underground firefighting hydrant network.

Project Stages and Services

Aman International Engineering team delivered a specialized, multi-stage approach to audit the existing facility and address the client's concerns.

Existing Facilities Audit

  • A comprehensive review of the fire protection system's as-built drawings was performed, specifically focusing on the external hydrant system, including the fire pump and hydrant network.
  • An on-site survey was conducted to verify the fire protection features against the reviewed drawings, and the functionality testing of the fire pump and hydrant system was witnessed.
  • A detailed Risk Assessment report was prepared for the client, which analyzed the risks to staff and operations posed by the ongoing leakages. The report included a clear comparison of the situation at Barka II with similar projects and provided recommendations for early leak detection and rectification techniques.

Project Outcome

The project successfully delivered a thorough audit of the existing firefighting system at the Barka II Plant. The detailed risk assessment provided the client with a clear understanding of the risks associated with the leakages and offered actionable recommendations for remediation. Our work ensured that the plant's firefighting systems were evaluated against current standards, enhancing the safety of the facility and its personnel and providing the necessary documentation for potential future improvements.
