This project involved a comprehensive fire and life safety consultancy for a new Art Collection Facility in AlUla, an area of significant historical importance in Saudi Arabia. The primary goal was to ensure all designs for the 16,381 sq. m facility, including its basement and ground floor, complied with the latest Saudi Building Code (SBC) and NFPA Codes and Standards. The project was a multi-stage process, from conceptual design to final approval.
Fire & Life Safety Design Review (Design Stages)
Aman International Engineering team conducted a phased and detailed review of the project's design and technical documentation.
- Conceptual Design Review (CDR): During the initial phase, the conceptual site and floor plans were reviewed. A key deliverable was the fire and life safety strategy report, which outlined the required fire protection, detection, and smoke management systems based on project specifics and regulatory requirements.
- Preliminary and Detailed Design Reviews (PDR/DDR): Thorough reviews of the project's preliminary and detailed design drawings were conducted. This involved examining all layouts, calculations, and technical documentation for a range of systems, including:
- Life Safety & Egress: Egress paths, occupant loads, and fire-rated barriers were reviewed to ensure a safe and efficient evacuation plan.
- Fire Suppression Systems: The design of fire protection systems like sprinklers, standpipes, and fire pumps was assessed.
- Fire Alarm & Voice Communication: The design of the fire alarm and detection systems, including notification devices and control panels, was evaluated for effective communication during an emergency.
- Smoke Management Systems: The design and philosophy of the smoke management and heat exhaust ventilation systems were reviewed to ensure effective smoke control.
Project Outcome
The project successfully navigated all design stages, with our team providing continuous support and review to ensure compliance. This work was a crucial step in preparing the Art Collection Facility for future construction, ensuring that it will be a safe and compliant landmark in AlUla. The comprehensive reviews and final design package were prepared for seamless submission to the Civil Defence, paving the way for the project's successful realization.
